Additional Guidelines and FAQs

How long should my submission be?
There is no official word count, but a post should be at least 500 words. If it’s longer than 2000 words, it better be good.

How long will it take to hear back about my submission?
Let’s say a week, but probably less.

Do I need to use my real name?
Nope. But real names are of course welcome. Regardless, we’ll be making a writer profile and bio for you.

Does Millennial Dad Journal have any creative control over the finished product?
We will take a look at your piece and possibly suggest edits, which you will have license to accept or reject. We will never publish something you are not comfortable with, but also reserve the right to ensure each piece meets our standards of quality.

Will I get paid for my work?
At the time of writing this, Millennial Dad Journal is losing money with no consistent revenue stream, so for the time being you will get paid in the symbolically meaningful but practically useless currency known as pride and exposure. Once we start turning a profit—or are in a situation where revenue streams indicate we eventually will turn a profit—writers will be compensated at a rate that respects the craft of writing.

Can I use AI in my work?
If we sense (or confirm) that you are using AI to do your writing, we will not publish your work. If you use AI anyway and trick us, we will be sad. See our AI Philosophy for more.

Do you have any requirements on promotion?
We strongly encourage writers to promote their work where they typically share their work; be this on social media, email, etc. There is however no requirement to do so, and if we see you making a TikTok dance about your post we will send you a recommendation for a therapist.
